The Club’s annual general meeting held on 15 August 2024 was attended by 16 members, exactly half of the Club’s membership.
The meeting opened on a very sombre note with Vice President Glenn expressing deepest sympathy and condolences on behalf of all members to Jenn who suffered a tragic family bereavement during the week. Jenn was presented with a beautiful arrangement of flowers and a sympathy card signed by members present.
Annual General Meeting. With President Freddie Lee unavoidably absent due to family commitments, Vice President Glenn opened the Annual General Meeting, which concluded at 8PM.
Interview techniques: Following the AGM, Peter W conducted a course on interviewing. He said the first key to good interviewing was ‘kindness’, followed by ‘preparation. He showed a video he had shot of various musicians in which he interviewed the musicians and invited club members to guess what the theme of the interviews was about. The answer was the connection music created with the wider community.
Peter divided members into pairs giving each pair two slips of paper, one with the word ‘film’ and the other with the word ‘meaning’. He challenged members to ‘interview’ their partner on what ‘film’ or ‘meaning’ meant to them. The outcome was highly successful with members learning a great deal about their interview partner.
Momentum production. After a break, members re-gathered for a first reading of Momentum, the winner of the highly competitive script writing competition. While Nigel read the scene setting instructions, Pamela, the author of the script, acted the role of Ben, the son of his ailing mother Rosemary, a 55 year old former professional ballerina dying of cancer. It took a very large leap of faith to imagine the role played by Paul who was demonstrably not 55 years years old, nor a former professional ballerina, and has never been anybody’s mother. Following the reading lengthy discussions were held on suggestions made by the script writing judging panel on the script and how it could be produced.
White Ribbon: Jenn showed a video called White Ribbon which she has been working on to promote and highlight a call for volunteers to support and raise awareness of victims of domestic violence. The video was directed, shot and edited by Jenn, not only as a subject close to her heart but also demonstrating how far and how committed she has come in her journey as a videographer communicating messages with a deep impact on our community.
Product review: Finally, Hermann reviewed his newly purchased DJI Osmo Pocket 3, a powerful ‘pocket’ size camera which shoots 4K/120fps on a 1” CMOS sensor, a two inch rotatable screen, horizontal/vertical shooting, 3 axis gimbal mechanical stabilisation and ActiveTrack 6.0 along with attachable microphone, built in battery with an add-on battery for longer shooting time and a 3/8 screw connection for tripod or selfie stick. A powerful little camera for around $1,000. It just shows that you can get powerful cameras that are not only small in the pocket but light on the pocket. next meeting will be Thursday 5 September.
