FILM BITE
Glenn showed an Art of the Scene clip "Breaking down the Omaha Beach Scene in Stephen Spielberg's movie Saving Private Ryan", widely recognised as the most realistic representation of war ever put on screen. It focused on the incredibly confronting opening sequence of the American forces landing at Omaha Beach. It shows the meticulous pre-production by Stephen Spielberg. To replicate the extremely graphic storming of the beach, it had cast and crew of 1500 people including one thousand Irish Army Reservist, 3,000 authentic uniforms made, used different camera and sound recording techniques to take the viewer very uncomfortably close to the action, chaos and carnage of war. The movie was awarded five Oscars but just as significantly generated earnest conversations among members of how world leaders should view this movie before committing people to war.
PROJECT UPDATES:
David informed members that the PNG Project is ‘slowly coming to fruition”. He is also doing a re-edit of “Eleven Tomorrows’ for potential re-marketing, and is holding a meeting next Tuesday for the “Smoke and Mirror” project, a ‘futuristic fiction’ project which would reflect the personality of the author and director. If you have Netflix, you can see where David is going with this if you view movies Black Mirror, Love Death and Robots and Oats Studios.
Peter advised that he has sold 181 tickets for the premiere of his Together documentary “A film tapestry featuring stories of real people and how positive connection enhances happiness”. The theatre has capacity for 246 so there are still 65 seats available. Click here to purchase tickets which are only $15 each.
